A Taste of Thai with Bob Parkinson

 £165 per person.

A hands-on cooking class followed by a classic yet simple Thai meal of dishes made on the day with ‘Made by Bob’ Parkinson. The food and cooking of Thailand is considered to be one of the most ancient and refined of the world’s cuisines.

Rich and exotic, yet vibrant and healthy, Thai food is based on the skilful contrast of textures (soft or crispy) and tastes (sweet, sour, mild, hot, dry or wet) to create harmoniously balanced dishes always enjoyed in good company.

Having trained and worked with the internationally recognised master of Thai food, Australia’s David Thompson, the chef, Bob Parkinson, will introduce us to the true tastes of Thai food and its fundamental culinary building blocks.

In this class, Bob will show us how the secret of cooking authentic Thai food at home, lies in the principles of good sourcing and preparation of the ingredients, thoughtful consideration of the taste and textures and balanced seasoning of every meal’s dishes, completed with enticingly beautiful presentation.

The class will end with a traditional, simple yet authentic meal of the classic dishes that we will have made on the day.

Bob’s inspirational introduction to cooking Thai food will be followed by a series of Thai Masterclasses with David Thompson at Thyme next year.

Format: A hands-on class followed by a classic yet simple Thai menu in which we’ll enjoy the dishes made during the day’s class. Hand outs will include information on kitchen equipment, growers of Asian vegetables and stockists of authentic Thai ingredients.

The kitchen is a masterpiece, brilliantly planned and kitted out and what a dreamy view too out onto the herb gardens. The Perry tasting was extremely interesting and so delicious, and I am going to try all the recipes again, a stunning, stylish and inspirational place! On the day I really cannot think of anything that could be bettered , v v fab!

The day was a real treat, thank you so much, I found it all deeply enjoyable visually and digestively! I only wish I had gone for the weekend and was staying in one of those paradise pods in the yard.

All the cookery schools I have experienced should spend a day with you to see how to present the perfect day.

Where can we begin to thank you for providing us all with such an exciting and constructive day, in the most beautiful cooking facilities in the UK and under the watchful eye (with a twinkle!) from an excellent instructor and top chef Daryll Taylor. The way the day was organised by Thyme at Southrop can only be captured in one word; OUTSTANDING!
