Weddings at Thyme

The Tithe Barn at Southrop is a particularly distinctive choice for an intimate wedding party. 

Located in the tiny Cotswold village of Southrop, mentioned in The Doomsday Book, the Tithe Barn is romantically located adjacent to the old Manor house and the Saxon church, with its exceptional Norman font, and overlooks the rolling, lush Gloucestershire countryside. 

Approached from the South, through herb and olive gardens designed by renowned garden designer, Bunny Guinness, the Barn's dramatic triple height entrance presents an imposing facade in mellow Cotswold stone. 

Inside, your guests are greeted by soaring ceilings, pale golden original oak beams, floors laid with fawn-coloured natural stone and luxurious wide-planked solid oak.  The whitewashed walls are inset with little glazed niches that filter in day light and serve to house atmospheric flickering candles at night.  Long, limed oak tables surrounded by smart dining chairs covered in the finest English woollen tweed convey the impression of a medieval banqueting hall, albeit rendered in a very contemporary and modern way.  Richly set with bespoke glassware and purple, mauve and green tableware by William Yeoward, beautiful embroidered linens complete the festive setting.

A retiring corner below the gallery at the western end of the barn features occasional tables and sofas, perfectly cosy in the winter.  In the summer, guests can roam around the olive grove gardens and enjoy a drink seated at one of the many tables dotted around.

The Tithe Barn is an impressive and versatile wedding venue for 24 to 100 guests.  The huge open plan space allows many combinations of seating for wedding breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as a Champagne reception.  For a seated wedding banquet, it can accommodate 60 to 70 people, with plenty of room for pre-banquet drinks as well as dancing. 

Our in-house chefs work closely with you to design delicious menus to your specifications, with an emphasis on seasonality and the local produce of Gloucestershire’s small scale farmers and producers.  An event organiser is on hand to assist with planning every aspect of the event including flowers, photographers, accommodation, gifts, invitation printing, transport, menus, party favours and entertainment.
